Toshiba reports that the technology utilizes edge AI for on-device processing, ensuring fast and reliable performance. This minimizes lag and provides immediate feedback to both staff and customers.

By December 2025, the ELERA system was fully operational across self-checkout lanes in all 199 Weis locations, marking a comprehensive upgrade. An impressive statistic from Weis shows that over 94% of customers selected the produce recognition feature at self-checkout, highlighting its user-friendliness and positive reception.
