Pool App: How AI Finally Makes Your Screenshots Useful

Pool App: How AI Finally Makes Your Screenshots Useful

For years, our phone’s camera roll has been a digital chameleon, serving dual purposes. It’s a cherished album for life’s special moments, but it has also become an overflowing vault for fleeting online finds. Think of all those recipes, fashion inspirations, travel ideas, witty tweets, and product recommendations you’ve screenshot, only to have them disappear into a sea of photos.

The good news? A revolutionary new app called Pool is here to help you finally make sense of this pervasive digital clutter. Launched recently, Pool leverages the power of artificial intelligence to transform your seemingly random collection of screenshots into an organized, actionable archive.

Transforming Screenshot Chaos into Order

Getting started with Pool is incredibly straightforward. You simply grant the app permission to access your photo library, and in moments, it begins its remarkable work. Pool intelligently scans your screenshots and sorts them into dynamic categories it cleverly calls “pools.”

These pools are entirely unique to you, reflecting the specific products, places, or interests you’ve saved over time. Whether it’s a collection of aspirational home decor, delicious dinner recipes, or must-visit travel destinations, Pool intuitively groups your visual bookmarks, creating a personalized and highly relevant organizational system.

Pool is part of a new wave of apps reinventing digital bookmarking for the AI era. While other innovative platforms like mymind, Fabric, and Raindrop help users organize various types of saved content, Pool uniquely hones in on the often-overlooked realm of screenshots. Its core strength lies in using advanced AI to help you effortlessly rediscover and act on all those things you originally intended to revisit.

Once your screenshots are imported and categorized, Pool’s AI takes center stage. It’s capable of tracking down the original link associated with virtually any screenshot you’ve saved. Imagine snapping a photo of a product you saw online – Pool can link directly to the retailer’s website, making your purchase intent actionable.

Similarly, if you’ve screenshot a mouth-watering recipe from Instagram, Pool can pull up the full ingredients list and instructions shared by the creator. This intelligent linking transforms static images into living, actionable data, bridging the gap between intention and execution.

The Genesis of a Smart Solution

The innovative concept behind Pool sprung from a universal problem shared by its co-founders, Maxime Junique and Piet Terheyden. Both found themselves constantly screenshotting things they wanted to remember, only to be unable to locate them later when needed. This seemingly simple frustration sparked the idea for a powerful solution.

“It sounds pretty obvious, right now, when we say it, but it’s something that we do so naturally — you don’t notice it, necessarily,” Junique explained. The founders, who initially met in a co-working space years ago, found that their friends echoed the same sentiment, admitting to routinely screenshotting and forgetting design ideas, inspirational quotes, or useful information.

Pool was actually the very first product to emerge from Spinoff Studio, the founders’ product and design venture, approximately three years ago. The initial version was a rapid build, created over a few weeks in Lisbon while the duo worked out of a van, developing the landing page, website, and the app’s foundational elements. However, they soon realized the need to build revenue-generating products first, leading them to temporarily shelve Pool and pivot to B2B SaaS.

The studio went on to successfully build other products, including the notable CRM software Waitless, which was acquired last year. It was the remarkable maturation of artificial intelligence that breathed new life into Pool. Suddenly, the core idea of making practical sense of personal, largely unstructured datasets became not just feasible, but incredibly powerful.

“We were like, it seems like a perfect time to go after this idea,” Junique shared, noting the untapped potential of this particular data set. “Everyone goes after emails, bank transactions, chat logs — all of those productivity-first datasets. Who is going after this really, deeply emotional data set we all own?”

Beyond Organizing: Predictive Relevance and Future Innovations

Pool’s intelligence extends beyond mere organization; it treats your screenshots like memories, understanding their temporal relevance. For instance, if you screenshot a barcode for an event ticket, Pool’s AI can intelligently recognize its transient nature, potentially removing it after the event has passed.

Conversely, if you snap a flyer from Instagram about an upcoming event, Pool’s AI agents can actively assist you by finding ticket purchase links and guiding you directly to the ticketing site. This proactive, context-aware assistance transforms your passive screenshots into dynamic personal assistants.

Finding information within Pool is designed to be intuitive and efficient. You can easily search for specific items or, for a more conversational approach, leverage its built-in AI assistant to find what you need. This integration makes recalling those vital visual snippets simpler than ever.

Looking ahead, the founders are planning to evolve this concept into a second, distinct application that will function as a more comprehensive personal AI assistant. Pool’s charming mascot – the little rubber duck you interact with at launch – is set to become a core part of the branding for this ambitious new agentic AI app.

The startup recently secured a significant pre-seed funding round of just over $2 million. This investment came from notable backers including General Catalyst, Kima Ventures, Paris-based Source Ventures, and a roster of angel investors such as Winston Du, Julian Blessin, and Thomas Ricouard. Pool is available now as a free download on iOS, ready to revolutionize how you interact with your screenshots.
