We are excited to support Pecos County, Texas, with a $1.5 million award dedicated to a critical project: a feasibility study and the subsequent construction of a new 10MW battery storage facility for its local cooperative.
This forward-thinking project will dramatically improve grid reliability for Pecos County residents, mitigate energy costs, and seamlessly integrate additional renewable energy sources like the area’s abundant solar and wind power. It’s a pivotal step towards a more stable and sustainable energy supply for this vital region.
Understanding and valuing new energy technologies is also key, which is why we’ve awarded EPRI (Electric Power Research Institute) $1 million. This grant supports a groundbreaking initiative to develop a standardized methodology for measuring the full societal benefits of distributed energy resources (DERs).
DERs, such as rooftop solar, home batteries, and electric vehicles, are transforming our energy landscape, but their comprehensive value has been difficult to quantify. This research will provide utilities and policymakers with clearer, more robust tools, enabling smarter investments and more effective policies for the future of clean energy.
Community Resilience in Action: Direct Impact Projects

We’re proud to provide the Central Texas Food Bank with $1.5 million to enhance the energy infrastructure at its Austin facility. This funding will facilitate the installation of modern rooftop solar panels and battery storage systems.
This project will dramatically reduce the food bank’s operational energy costs and provide crucial backup power, especially for critical infrastructure like its large freezer units. Over the next 25 years, this initiative is projected to generate $3.5 million in energy savings, freeing up valuable funds that can be redirected to their core mission of feeding hungry Texans.
